  • Conservatorio di Musica Luca Marenzio

    Conservatorio di Musica Luca Marenzio

The tradition of music education in Brescia began in 1864 with the establishment of the "Venturi" Parity Music Institute, the first institution to guarantee "free education for the people" in music within the city. This tradition continued with the Luca Marenzio Conservatory of Music, offering a richer and more qualified educational program. It provides basic training courses for students aged 7 to 12 and preparatory courses for students aged 12 to 19 to promote access to academic courses. The Conservatory has a close collaboration with the local Music High School, whose students attend classes at the conservatory.

The Brescia Conservatory offers a series of additional activities within the "Institute Project," which includes a department of special education and pedagogy, generating seminars and masterclasses on specific topics of special education and access to music for blind students. The music students at the conservatory number around 600 with a teaching staff of 120 instructors. The Brescia Conservatory is an "Institute of Higher Artistic and Musical Education" and has increased its production activities and presence in the territory, paying special attention to inclusion by activating a centre for the reception and educational production for students with special educational needs. The Conservatory is also a training centre for teaching qualifications, providing initial training for over 300 students annually who intend to become future teachers for all levels of schooling, including music high schools and middle music schools. Additionally, it organises continuing education courses for primary and secondary school teachers and educational staff (certified continuing education); conducts disciplinary research and research on educational methodologies in the field of music; and participates in international cooperation actions.
