The masterclass, organised as part of the MuVie project, brought together 20 participants, including teachers, trainers, music professionals and students interested in exploring the topic of music accessibility. The two-days event focused on tools and techniques for making audio production and editing fully accessible. Participants had the opportunity to explore the use of the REAPER software in combination with the NVDA screen reader, gaining practical skills to record, compose and arrange musical pieces independently.
The masterclass was led by Anna Nicotra, a doctoral student at Siena Jazz, and Dr. Gianluca Apollaro, a specialised IT expert and author of the scripts that make REAPER accessible to blind users. The speakers provided practical advice and valuable technical guidance, demonstrating how to take full advantage of digital tools to overcome barriers related to visual impairment.
Participants were particularly appreciative of the practical and interactive approach of the sessions, the clarity of the explanations on how to use REAPER and NVDA and the opportunity to interact with experts in the field of music accessibility.
