17-18 November, Strasbourg
On 18 November, 162 participants from 24 European countries and Canada gathered at the European Parliament in Strasbourg for a European conference co-organised by ENVITER (European Network for Vision Impairment Training Education & Research), HIPEN (European Network for Professionals Working with People with Hearing Impairments), and RFDSL (Francophone Network on Sensory Impairment). The conference brought together experts, practitioners, and advocates in the fields of visual and hearing impairments to strengthen the link between policy and practice and to advance a more inclusive, rights-based Europe.
The programme featured a series of presentations by representatives of the three networks, highlighting current developments and innovative approaches to improving accessibility for persons with sensory impairments and language disorders. The event provided an important forum for knowledge exchange, reinforced cross-network cooperation, and underscored the need for coordinated action to support the rights, inclusion, and active participation of persons with disabilities.
Ahead of the conference, the ENVITER Blue Sky Meeting took place on 17 November, where members shared updates on ongoing projects, partnerships, research, and national developments.
Representing Cyprus and the St. Barnabas School for the Blind, School Director Mrs. Layia Englezaki-Karpasiti delivered a dedicated presentation on the MuVie project. Her presentation outlined the project’s objectives and progress to date, including the user needs report, the development of a digital music Braille library, and the creation of innovative digital tools and teaching methodologies. She highlighted the vision of the MuVie project aiming to enhance music learning for students with visual impairments and supporting the establishment of a barrier-free European standard in music education.
